This paper examines the phenomenon of
indifference and apathy in contemporary Vietnamese
society from an interdisciplinary perspective integrating
sociology, psychology, and digital media studies. By
systematizing key concepts and applying theories such
as Anomie and the Bystander Effect, the study clarifies
the mechanisms underlying the emergence and spread
of apathetic behavior in the context of urbanization and
technological development. It also highlights the
alarming decline of compassion, particularly among
youth and within social media environments. The paper
further analyzes core causes, including utilitarian
lifestyles, competitive pressures, and the overload of
negative information. Based on these findings, it
proposes comprehensive solutions in education, media,
and legal frameworks to help restore humanistic values
and strengthen social responsibility.
