Applications of artificial intelligence in maritime transport in Vietnam: Opportunities, challenges, and solutions

Abstract

With the development of technology today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is
gradually becoming an indispensable tool in improving the efficiency and safety of the
global maritime transport industry. In the context of Vietnam – a country with a long
coastline and a strategic role in maritime trade – the application of AI offers many
opportunities but also poses numerous challenges. The research aims to analyze and
highlight the potential role of AI in optimizing operations, enhancing safety, and developing
smart ports in Vietnam, while also assessing the barriers related to infrastructure, human
resources, costs, and the legal framework. The results show that, to optimally exploit the
outstanding advantages of AI, the Vietnamese transport industry needs to develop
synchronized investment strategies combined with close coordination and agreement with
all stakeholders.
